With Rex being a licensed slot machine I think it is rather unfortunate that Novomatic have not included additional characters from the show as symbols, instead Rex features alongside pretty generic crime busting symbols. Of course, Rex is the main symbol and is accompanied by his paw print, police siren, police car, police helicopter, gun, handcuffs, sandwich, plus playing cards commonly used in table games from Ace to 9.
Rex is also by the highest valued symbol with five on a payline rewarding you with a 25x win, while in comparison five of a 10 or 9 playing card only reward you with a 2.5x win.
The sounds are also a let-down. I expected to be greeted by the television show soundtrack when I loaded Rex, but instead it was the same old generic theme tune used in other Novomatic slot machines like Xtra Hot and Columbus. There are some siren sounds when you land a win on the reels but that’s not enough.
One thing they have done great is the inclusion of animations after a winning combination. For example, I landed three Rex symbols on a payline and they then sprung into life with Rex jumping through a pane of glass – just as happened in a scene from the television show!
